Comprehensive CAA Training for the IDT On-Demand Workshop

This on-demand workshop provides comprehensive training for all NACs and IDT members responsible for the care area assessment (CAA) process. You will receive detailed case studies and examples for each of the 20 care areas, review regulatory requirements, and examines potential survey implications when CAAs are done incorrectly. Customize the learning experience to best meet your needs by selecting to learn more about the specific CAAs you are required to complete.

 Following this on-demand workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose of and requirements for CAAs
  • Demonstrate how to write individual and combined care area summary notes specific to their discipline
  • Compose a person-centered care plan from the care summary note
  • Identify regulations and survey implications that involve the CAAs

Jessie is a curriculum development specialist for AAPACN. Previously Jessie worked as the director of clinical reimbursement for a large long-term care organization overseeing 17 clinical reimbursement consultants across 21 states including nearly 300 living centers. She has more than 17 years of long-term care experience including restorative nurse, MDS coordinator, regional clinical reimbursement specialists, clinical reimbursement trainer, and director of clinical reimbursement. Jessie is passionate about developing the skills of nurse assessment coordinators, restorative nursing, and improving residents’ quality of life and care.

Jennifer is a curriculum development specialist with AAPACN. She has been involved in the RAI process since 1997 and has been in the post-acute care arena since 1991 serving in a variety of capacities including CNA, charge nurse, MDS coordinator, and regional corporate clinical reimbursement specialist. Jennifer has considerable expertise in the MDS 3.0 and RAI process, the prospective payment system (PPS), and ICD-10, including the clinical and financial aspects.

This on-demand webinar series provides comprehensive training for all nurse assessment coordinators (NACs) and interdisciplinary team (IDT) members responsible for the care area assessment (CAA) process. CAA completion, an often-minimized portion of the MDS, can result in survey citations when details are lacking. This course provides detailed case studies and examples for each of the 20 care areas, reviews regulatory requirements, and examines potential survey implications when CAAs are done incorrectly.

All learners will complete the same material in sections 1, 3, 4, and 5. Section 2 gives you the opportunity to customize your learning experience to best meet your needs by selecting to learn more about the specific CAAs you are required to complete in your current role. Only one example from this section is required for overall completion.

2.0 contact hours will be awarded for this continuing nursing education activity. Learners must complete all sections to earn the contact hours. Partial credit will not be awarded, and additional contact hours will not be awarded for completing additional examples in section 2 beyond the one required. Contact hours will be awarded for this activity until November 23, 2027.

To complete the course:

  1. Click open the component section for the appropriate section
  2. Click the "View Video" button to open the on-demand workshop and press the play button to begin
  3. Complete the course material by watching at least 80% of each video in sections 1, 3, 4, and 5, and at least 80% of one of the videos in section 2

  4. Complete the feedback survey

To receive ANCC CEs:

  • You must complete at least 80% of the educational activity
  • You must complete all sections
  • You must submit the feedback survey for the program
