ICD-10-CM coding is complex and not a topic typically taught during formal nursing education. During this 60-minute webinar, AAPACN master teacher Carol Maher, RN-BC, RAC-MTA, RAC-MT, CPC, will explore the reasons ICD-10-CM coding accuracy is required, as well as highlight five frequent coding errors. This session will assist nurse assessment coordinators in understanding the appropriate steps to take to identify which diagnoses can be coded, how to ensure that the correct coding process is followed, and how to prevent the five biggest coding errors.

After participating in this session, learners will be able to:

  • Pinpoint five common ICD-10-CM coding errors
  • Implement one strategy to prevent a common coding error
  • Understand the importance of the primary diagnosis code in PDPM and its future importance in state case mix systems

1.0 contact hour will be awarded for this continuing nursing education activity. Learners must view at least 80% of the entire video and complete the associated evaluation to receive the contact hours. No partial credit will be awarded. Contact hours will be awarded for this activity until October 7, 2024.
