On-Demand Webinar: How to Prepare for FY 2024 ICD-10-CM Updates

Recorded On: 09/06/2023

The FY 2024 ICD-10-CM coding updates go into effect on Oct. 1, 2023. HIPAA requires that the facility’s clinical team ensure accurate diagnoses are reflected in the medical record, so any changes to the codes will need to be updated timely. Additionally, these codes are required on billing claim forms as well as the MDS, which impacts payment under the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM). During this 60-minute webinar, AAPACN Curriculum Development Specialist, Jennifer LaBay, RN, RAC-MT, RAC-MTA, QCP, CRC, will provide an overview of the updates coming to the ICD-10-CM coding guidelines that impact long-term care and reimbursement and will recommend actionable steps to be taken by Oct. 1 to ensure facilities update current ICD-10-CM codes to the new and revised codes.

After participating in this session, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the overall changes to the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
  • Recognize the new codes for Parkinson’s Disease, osteoporosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Understand three steps to take each Oct. 1 to ensure each resident’s ICD-10-CM codes are kept up to date
  • Identify the changes to the PDPM mapping tool

1.0 contact hour will be awarded for this continuing nursing education activity. Learners must view at least 80% of the entire video and complete the associated evaluation to receive the contact hours. No partial credit will be awarded. Contact hours will be awarded for this activity until September 6, 2026.

NOTE: CMS updated the SLP Mapping tool on Sept. 18, 2023. Please see this AAPACN Tip for updated information.
