It is time to prepare for the FY 2025 ICD-10-CM coding updates, which go into effect on Oct. 1, 2024. HIPAA requires that the facility’s clinical team ensure accurate diagnoses are reflected in the medical record. Additionally, these codes are required on billing claim forms as well as MDSs, which impact payment under the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM). Facility teams may be at risk of noncompliance and loss of payment if the affected codes are not properly updated.
During this 90-minute webinar, AAPACN Curriculum Development Specialist, Jennifer LaBay, RN, RAC-MT, RAC-MTA, QCP, CRC, will detail the updates to the ICD-10-CM coding instructions that impact long-term care and reimbursement. Jennifer will also recommend actionable steps to be taken by Oct. 1 to ensure facilities update current codes to the new and revised ICD-10-CM codes.
After participating in this session, learners will be able to:
• Understand the overall changes to the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
• Recognize the new codes for presymptomatic diabetes, the addition of ‘in remission’ codes to several cancer codes, genetic KCNQ2 epilepsy, and expanded obesity codes
• Understand three steps to take each Oct. 1 to ensure each resident’s ICD-10-CM codes are kept up to date
• Identify the changes to the PDPM mapping tool
1.5 contact hours will be awarded for this continuing nursing education activity. Learners must view at least 80% of the entire video and complete the associated evaluation to receive the contact hours. No partial credit will be awarded. Contact hours will be awarded for this activity until September 12, 2027.
