On-Demand Webinar: Overview of the Draft MDS 3.0 RAI User’s Manual v1.18.11

Recorded On: 05/18/2023

In early April, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the draft version of the Long-Term Care Facility Resident Assessment Instrument 3.0 User’s Manual version (v)1.18.11, which will go into effect Oct. 1, 2023. Since there has not been a version update to the RAI User’s Manual since 2019 and the draft item sets revealed several new MDS items, this early release is welcomed so facility staff can get a head start on preparing for the multitude of upcoming changes. Although the final manual is not expected until August, the draft provides nurse assessment coordinators (NACs) and interdisciplinary team (IDT) members several months to absorb all the new items, definitions, instructions, examples, and clarifications to prepare for October 1.

During this 90-minute webinar, AAPACN Curriculum Development Specialist, Jennifer LaBay, RN, RAC-MT, RAC-MTA, QCP, CRC, discusses the changes and new items coming to the MDS this October.

After participating in this session, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the overall changes to the RAI User’s Manual v1.18.11
  • Recognize the MDS items that are also standardized patient assessment data elements (SPADEs)
  • Identify the added instructions and changes to sections A, B, C, D, F GG, J, K M, N, O, and Q

1.0 contact hour will be awarded for this continuing nursing education activity. Learners must view at least 80% of the entire video and complete the associated evaluation to receive the contact hours. No partial credit will be awarded. Contact hours will be awarded for this activity until May 18, 2026.
