On-Demand Webinar: Prepare for the October 2022 ICD-10-CM Coding Updates

Recorded On: 09/29/2022

The FY 2023 ICD-10-CM coding updates go into effect on Oct. 1, 2022. ICD-10-CM coding accuracy is required by HIPAA. The facility’s clinical team must ensure that diagnosis coding is accurately completed in each medical record. ICD-10-CM coding also impacts payment under PDPM. During this 60-minute webinar, AAPACN Master Teacher, Carol Maher, RN-BC, RAC-MTA, RAC-MT, CPC, will review each of the changes to the ICD-10-CM coding guidelines that impact long-term care, including changes to Dementia coding, long-term injectable non-insulin medication use, sepsis coding, HIV coding, and more. Carol will also cover recommendations that will assist facilities to understand the steps that need to be taken each Oct. 1 when the coding guidelines and ICD-10-CM codes are updated with additions, revisions, and/or deletions.

After participating in this session, learners will be able to:

  • Recognize the new code for mild Dementia in diseases classified elsewhere
  • Identify the one new item that can be coded when documented by a non-physician practitioner
  • Implement the change to coding related to insulin and oral anti-hypoglycemic medications
  • Understand three steps to take each Oct. 1 to ensure the resident ICD-10-CM codes are kept up to date

1.0 contact hour will be awarded for this continuing nursing education activity. Learners must view at least 80% of the entire video and complete the associated evaluation to receive the contact hours. No partial credit will be awarded. Contact hours will be awarded for this activity until September 29, 2025.
